The Houston Texans have a chance of winning the AFC South Division and clinching the fourth seed in their season finale on Sunday, January 3 with a win or tie over the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars at Reliant Stadium. Houston heads into the game with an 8-7 record and sits atop the division. However, the Colts will tie them if Indianapolis wins and Houston loses, setting off a tiebreaking situation. Meanwhile, the Jaguars are in third place in the division with a mark of 5-10. The Texans are coming off of a 34-6 victory in Tennessee last weekend while the Jaguars dropped a 38-27 decision to the Saints in New Orleans. The Texans and Jaguars met earlier in the season in week six with Houston pulling off a 31-20 road win.

The Jaguars allowed Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees to pass for three touchdowns and 412 yards on Sunday and weren’t able to record an interception. They were also stung by Tim Hightower as he rushed for a pair of touchdowns and 122 yards. They’ll need to tighten up if they hope to spoil the Texans postseason hopes. Jacksonville wasn’t able to do it in week six though when Houston quarterback Brian Hoyer threw for three touchdowns and 293 yards. Jacksonville allows 27.9 points against per game which ranks as the most in the league and are 21st when it comes to yards against per game at 373.2.

Jaguars’ quarterback Blake Bortles will be facing a good pass defense as the Texans concede 212.2 yards against per outing. Bortles hasn’t been receiving much protection this year though as he’s been sacked a total of 43 times, which ranks as the fourth-most in the league. Back in week six, Bortles was sacked three times, but managed to throw three touchdown passes and 331 yards. However, he was also picked off three times. The Jaguars have gone 2-1-1 against the spread on their past four road trips.

Texans’ quarterback Brandon Weeden is now 2-0 as a starter this year after his win over the Titans last Sunday. He’s hoping to make it three straight this weekend to put his squad in the playoffs. Weeden tossed a pair of touchdown passes in week 16 along with 200 yards. He also ran in the first rushing touchdown of his career. DeAndre Hopkins was also in fine form and now has a touchdown and 211 yards in the air in his last two contests. Hopkins burned the Jaguars for two touchdowns and 148 yards on 10 receptions back in October.

The Houston defense forced Jacksonville to turn the ball over three times in that game and Andre Hal is leading the side with three interceptions this year. The Texans are 4-1 straight up in their past five home encounters with Jacksonville and with so much on the line this Sunday should improve that to 5-1.
